Bucharest is a political and administrative center, economic and cultural artifacts from the Paleolithic materials and attested on 20 September 1459. Bucharest, the most important urban center of Romania (with a population six times larger than that of the second Iasi largest city) is not only a tourist spot but also the starting point for many tourist destinations across the country. Large parks and lakes that give the city the name of "garden city" with attractions are nearby: Snagov forest and lake (including the renovated monastery situated on an island in the middle of the lake), Mogosoaia - with the Palace of Constantin Brancoveanu, Pustnicu Forest, Cernica and Pasarea, the Baneasa Woods (with the largest zoo in Romania), Lake Caldarusani monastery (founded during the reign of Matei Basarab). Outdoor Village Museum (the second most important in Europe after Stockholm), Romanian Peasant Museum, the National History Museum or the churches of centuries 16-17 should not be missed by tourists. Lovers of contemporary art can admire and even buy the art galleries in the downtown paintings by contemporary artists.
