About Our Home

Our apartment is in a fantastic position, on the water in Balmain East, an inner suburb of Sydney. Balmain has a mix of architecture ranging from 1850 sandstone houses, to modern waterfront complexes. It is famous for its restaurants, its Saturday market, and the interesting and historic walks around it. It is a very fashionable suburb, and has quite a few waterfront parks (one right beside us, and there is a string of parks on the other side). It is a 5-minute walk from our place, a large part through waterfront parks, to the ferry wharf, which has a great service, usually every half hour. You can get a ferry to Darling Harbour (takes 5 minutes) or to Milsons Point and McMahons Point (on the North side of the Harbour) or Circular Quay (the Opera House and the Rocks). This ferry takes between 10 and 15 minutes depending on stops. Can also get ferries going up the river. We also have buses from the ferry wharf which take you to the city and other parts of Sydney, so public transport is very good. Our apartment is situated at the end of a street on a peninsular, so there is no through-traffic, and it is very quiet and peaceful, as is the whole block. We have water views out of all the rooms except the loungeroom (i.e. the kitchen, bathroom, toilet, and both bedrooms). Whenever you look out there is something passing - yachts, cruisers, kayakers, container ships etc. Although we only get waterviews from the side of the unit (and don't face the water) the apartment block is on the water, and we have quite a large park area there, with swimming pool, tables and chairs, bbque, and night lighting. It's a wonderful place to have a drink and watch the city lights come on just across the water. It's also wonderful to have a swim, and then stay and read while watching the harbour activity. We used to have a little dingy stored here, and are considering replacing it, but haven't done so yet. There is also a sauna room in the under-cover parking, but very few people use it, and it's a bit run-down, but it is available, with separate shower and toilet as well. Our apartment is fairly compact, with two bedrooms (the second bedroom is set up as a study, but has a very comfortable, pull-down double bed. It has a combined lounge/dining room with a balcony off it, which overlooks mainly greenery, with a few houses amongst it. We're on the top floor (5th floor), with a lift. Our kitchen is a state of the art galley kitchen with dishwasher. We also have a separate laundry with washing machine and dryer, a separate state of the art bathroom with shower and spa bath, and a separate toilet.
