Brienz, Switzerland

Unique flat near lake and mountains

Apartment 4 2 1
About Our Home
Our home is situated in the old part of a village directly on the lake of Brienz, in the midst of the Swiss alps. The village is known for its woodcarving tradition. The apartment is on the 2nd floor (no neighbours above) of an old traditional Swiss chalet, dating back to 1540, with a nice garden where you can sit in the shade of fruit trees. Right in front of the house you have your own parking space (I mention this because it is not always the case when streets are narrow and houses offer little or no surroundings). The apartment (77m2) is bright thanks to rather large windows (which isn't the case either by these old chalets). From the living room you have an astonishing view of the mountains and the lake. The lake is less than 1 min. walking distance away (yes, you can swim in the lake as many locals do, tourists tend not to, but we do swim in the lake), the supermarket is 1 min. away, the railway station 10 min. away with lots of opportunities to get on a train or on a bus that will take you directly up in the mountains. The village and its area are rich on various tourist attractions, ranging from rural museums to outdoor activities like hiking. The apartment has a certain atmosphere because of its explicit old wood walls, the staircase being old and made totally of wood also carries to this atmosphere. Height of flat is 205cm. Floors have been renovated a few years ago, parts of the kitchen as well. The kitchen has a dish washer. One bedroom has a double bed (190cm x 190cm), the other bedroom has 2 beds, one of 200cm x 120cm and one of 200cm x 90cm. Although small, the bathroom has a bathtub with a shower. We have firealarms in every room. Spoken languages: English, German, Danish. One more thing. If you choose not to come by car, Switzerland is known for her well organized public transportation system (trains, buses, ships) and yes, they DO run on time.

  Personal Message

We will be travelling with my sister, her husband and their two daughters. So we will be 6 persons all together. We have never exchanged homes with anyone before. I find exchanging homes a good idea and I am particularly fond of the idea of the possibility to try and live up to the trust you are being shown when someone is opening their home for you. It shows confidence and it feels good.
